3rd Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition, which was organized with cooperation of Forum Mersin, and Mersin University and that witnessed great excitement with participation of 215 works of 192 film-makers, was concluded. Derya Durmaz came in first with the film named ‘Ziazan’.

Award ceremony of the competition was held with presentation of Nefise Karatay on May 10th, on Saturday in Atıf Yılmaz Square of Forum Mersin AVM.

Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition that was organized third times this year in the memory of Atıf Yılmaz, master director of Turkish cinema, was concluded with a perfect premiere. Mersin University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yüksel Özdemir, Mersin University Communication Faculty  Deputy Dean Prof. Senem DuruelErkılıç, Mersin University Communication Faculty  Radio, Cinema and Television Department Head Ass. Prof. Dr. Hakan Erkılıç, Cinematography  Director Mehmet Aksın, Music and Fine arts Department Head of  METU Academic Thomas Balkenhol and many participants attended the premiere that was held in Atıf Yılmaz Square of Forum Mersin.

ATIF YILMAZ SHORT FILM COMPETITION IS IMPROVING IN TERMS OF QUALITY AND QUANTITY

Forum Mersin AVM Public Relations Manager Murat Telli who made speech in Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition said that he expects that this competition and such competitions make great contribution to film-makers. Telli stating that participation into competition is increasing each passing year said that “Many colorful and different films come from all corners of Turkey. Evaluation process was difficult but also pleasant. Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition is improving in terms of quality and quantity each year. The things making cities valuable are that they protect values they grew and raised. We expect to make even a small contribution to Turkish cinema in Mersin as a city growing very big value such as Atıf Yılmaz. I thank everyone who contributed in Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition”.

Atıf Yılmaz SHORT FILM COMPETITION WAS InstItutIonalIzeD

Mersin University Communication Faculty Deputy Dean Prof. Senem DuruelErkılıçdrew attention for importance of third organization of Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition, and stated that “Third organization of Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition is an indicator that the competition was institutionalized. Many films participated in this competition. Pre-jury transmitted 20 films to main jury after a very difficult election process, and main jury stated that they had difficulty in selection because films that were participated were high in terms of quality. I thank very much to everyone who contributed.”

QUALITY OF THE FILMS PARTICIPATED ON THE COMPETITION IS VERY GOOD

Film Editor- Music and Fine Arts Department Academic of METU Thomas Balkenhol said that he met Turkish cinema with film of Yılmaz Güney in Mersin. Balkenhol, losing opportunity to meet Atıf Yılmaz, expressed that films of Atıf Yılmaz are also introduced in Germany, and he liked quality of films participated in this competition that was made on his behalf.

Atıf Yılmaz SHORT FIlm COMPETITION HAS A VERY GOOD PLACE AMONG FESTIVALS MADE IN TURKEY

Director of Cinematography Mehmet Aksın stated that technical and scenario quality of the films in 3rd Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition was high, and “I had considerably difficulty in evaluation process. There are 5 films deserved first Prize, 5 films deserved second Prize, and 5 films deserved third Prize in my eyes. Films not ranking were also good films. This is indicator that both Turkish cinema and Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition obtained a good place among festivals in Turkey”.

WINNER OF Atıf Yılmaz SHORT FILM COMPETITION OBTAINED PRİZE OF 6 THOUSAND TL

In the Premium night where  award ceremony was initiated after speeches, films ranking with selection of jury that consisted of Actress Deniz Türkali, Director Seren Yüce, Director of Cinematography Mehmet Aksın, Film editor- METU Music and Fine arts  Department Academic Thomas Balkenhol and Cinema Author of Radikal News paper Erman Ata Uncu were explained.

Accordingly, Derya Durmaz obtained first prize of 6 thousand TL with film named ‘Ziazan’ in 3rd  Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition. Azra Deniz Okyay participating in the competition with film named ‘Küçük Kara Balıklar’ (Small Black Fishes) obtained second prize of 3 thousand TL, and Onur Otacı and Murat Kandemir obtained third prize of 2 thousand TL with film named ‘Göz’ (Eye).

Sefa Sürücü, owner of the film ‘Kıyıda’ (on-shore) and having highest likes from voting of Facebook, gained Special Prize of Forum AVM’ler in 3rd Atıf Yılmaz Short Film Competition.

Bilgi Diren Güneş obtained Forum Mersin Environment Special Prize with the film named Natürmorg selected among films having theme of environment apart from the works that jury members determined for the first three. Thank you plaque was given to those who contributed after the ceremony. Thank you plaques were given to Mersin University Communication Faculty Deputy Dean Prof. Sanem DuruelErkılıç, Mersin University Communication Faculty Radio Cinema and Television Department Head Ass. Prof. Dr. Hakan Erkılıç, Mersin University Communication Faculty Radio Cinema and Television Department Academic Prof. Dr. Gürhan Topçu, METU Music and Fine arts Department Academic Thomas Balkenhol, Director of cinematography Mehmet Aksın, Forum Mersin Advertisement and Public Relations Manager Murat Telli, Penguen Film Medya Agency Chairman by Mersin University Vice-chancellor Prof. Dr. Yüksel Özdemir. The films that gained Prize after premiere night that was organized with a magnificent ceremony were watched by visitors.
